I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC no. PYL18000), a Chartered member of The British Psychological Society (BPS), and a member of the Association of Family Therapy (AFT).

Qualifications

I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist at the University of South Africa in 1992 before moving the UK in 1995 to take up a position in the NHS. I also completed a PhD in Child and Family Psychology at the Tavistock Clinic in 2003. I have also been in the privileged position to have undertaken several international training events in Italy with the world-renowned family therapist, Professor Maurizio Andolfi.

Experience and approach

In the 30 years since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist, I have worked with people in both physical and mental health services. I have substantial experience in helping and supporting children, young people, parents, adults, couples, families who are experiencing difficulties in life.

I have gained considerable experience of providing clinical services to people experiencing a wide range of relational, emotional, and behavioural problems. I have a strong belief that people are inherently resilient and resourceful, and that with the right help and support people can overcome their problems and lead a happy and fulfilling life.

I have worked for 15 years as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service where I was involved in leading and managing services, and during this time also developed a special interest in helping children, young people, parents and families to resolve relationship difficulties.  In all my work I aim to help people to develop, restore or strengthen connections with those who are important in their lives.

I offer a tailored approach to psychological therapy drawing on a number of different therapeutic models depending on the needs of the client(s). I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental, and confidential space for people to explore their difficulties and to develop effective ways of overcoming the current dilemmas and difficulties in their lives.

I have for many years divided my time between clinical practice and training clinical psychologists. I am currently the Programme Director for a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Training Programme. I am a highly experienced clinical and research supervisor, consultant, and external examiner. I have a special interest in helping new and experienced psychological therapists to expand their repertoires by reflecting on the interface between their professional and personal identities.
