Individual Psychological Therapy

Adults seek therapy for a variety of reasons and at different times in their lives. Often an individual will seek assistance when they are in emotional pain and need a trained professional to help make sense of, and to help alleviate this pain. Individual psychological therapy is useful for addressing a range of concerns, from general life stress, to recovery and healing from traumatic events, to specific mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. In individual therapy the individual and the therapist work together in a collaborative manner to make sense of what is causing distress, and to find ways together of reducing the distress. The therapist provides a safe, confidential, supportive, and non-judgemental environment for exploration, sense making, and making changes.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is a form of psychological therapy that aims to help families and those in close relationships to mend or improve their bonds. It aims to help people to develop, restore and strengthen their connections with those who are important in their lives. The role of the therapist is to provide a safe and supportive space to explore everyone’s views of their interactions, to help make sense of the problems that they are having, and to facilitate discussions about what changes are needed to improve their relationships.

Consultation

Effective teamwork is vital for all organisations. Consultation help teams to think about how they work together, to understand how they can maximise their performance by creating an open, transparent, and constructive team culture, able to perform at their best despite the challenges and tensions that often arise. Consultation also helps teams to understand their strengths and how to harness them, and the dynamics between them that are less helpful and get in the way. Sometimes this means working with what is already known and supporting teams to make the change they want to see. Consultation can take the form of a standalone away day or a more comprehensive bespoke programme, resolving conflict or becoming more reflective as a team, enabling teams to be able to reach their full potential and deliver enhanced performance in an often challenging and turbulent environment.

Couple Therapy

Couple therapy is a means to deepen a relationship bond or to resolve difficulties and conflicts that couples have not been able to resolve on their own. It involves both partners sitting down with a trained professional (a therapist) to discuss and explore the thoughts and feelings they have about each other and their relationship in a safe and impartial space. The therapist helps the couple to explore unhelpful patterns of interaction, to develop a better understanding of each other, and to identify areas of the relationship that the couple want to work on with the help of the therapist. Couples therapy can be helpful at any stage of a relationship, but particularly at points where life transitions occur (e.g., during pregnancy, the birth of a child, children growing up and leaving home, deciding to separate or divorce, etc.) and adjustments in the relationship are required.

Supervision

Supervision is a formal process in which a qualified or trainee therapist or counsellor regularly presents their client work to a designated or chosen supervisor as way of enhancing their practice through careful reflection on the process of therapy. The main purpose of supervision is to ensure the efficacy of the therapist’s practice which, in turn, will enable a therapist to work towards the best possible service for their clients. Supervision can take different forms such as in groups, on a one-to-one basis, by telephone, by internet, in writing or by video.

Training & Workshops

Continuing professional development is both a professional expectation and a personal responsibility for psychologists and other mental health professionals, and further training and workshops provide learning and development opportunities as well as support and advice on issues of best practice and professional growth. Training and workshops are most effective when they use innovative, hands-on methods – from brief presentations by subject matter experts to small group exercises and experiential methods – that actively engage participants in their own learning. Such approaches not only increase participants’ knowledge and skills, but they also provide the opportunity for participants to network with each other while sharing best practices and lessons learned.
